ELD (English Language Development) Program
Pittsburgh Mount Oliver Intermediate Unit 2 offers ELD services to students in various Non-Public schools within the City of Pittsburgh. A certified Intermediate Unit ELD Program Specialist will test for proficiency levels once a school has determined through the Home-Language Survey that a student's primary language spoken at home is not English. The WIDA Screener is given to these students to establish whether there is a need for language support. Direct instruction is generally provided one to two times a week to students who are not proficient in English when the schedule permits. The ELD Program Specialist also offers consultation to classroom teachers and parents. The IPT Language Proficiency Test is administered annually in the spring to monitor the progress of ELLs (English Language Learners) who participate in the program.
